Speaker Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in speaking and presenting at a Women And Code event! 🩵

Talk Basics

  • Exclusively female* speakers – we explicitly welcome all FLINTA+ / LGBTIQ+ speakers and other marginalized genders.
  • Type: The presentation should be a talk (supported by slides or live demo) – not f.i. an interactive workshop – participants are not required to bring their computer.
  • Duration: 30-45min + 5-10min Q&A (moderated by one of us)
  • Language: In English – speech and text on slides
  • Topic:
    • Usually it’s a good idea to pick something you recently worked on and that you’re passionate about. Working with a framework you really love? Recently developed something cool you want to show? Want to share a tricky but funny way to debug your stack? Share it with us!
    • The Presentation should be as techy and deep-dive as possible. We like to see hands-on live coding and practical applications – no high level sales / marketing presentations please.
    • If you want to give a motivational speech, please reach out to us! On special events like our yearly summer party we’ll have non-tech talks.
  • Audience:
    • female*-only
    • Usually 80% software engineers (all levels, junior to senior) and IT people from other tech fields like devops, security, product, UX, design etc.
    • 35-70 people, generally nice questions (we have a Code Of Conduct) – ideal for new speakers!
  • Video: In general, we do not record the talks – if you want it to be recorded, please mention this explicitly to us.
  • Tools:
    • Please present from your own notebook and prepare for HDMI connection to a projector. Alternatively you can also send your presentation (as PDF preferred) prior to the event.
    • If you need a clicker but don’t own one, please tell us – we can bring one.
  • Companion: You can bring a (female*-only) friend to the event – as long as they also register through meetup.com
